Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker competitor in the world by quite a few of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching turning 1. His grandfather taught Phil penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup every little thing he possibly could about poker. He routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn't let the negative comments from others annihilate his ambition of being one of the best poker competitors in the world.

He began competing intently after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for him were a learning opportunity and winning wasn't a normal outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved two final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he defeated many of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to dedication and an undying passion for poker. Phil says that he is learning every day and is quite abashed about his success. He admits to making blunders every single session of poker and always aspires to get better.

Although Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he likes destroying money games on a normal basis.
