Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker player in the world by many of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather showed him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup everything he possibly could about the game. He would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn't permit the negative feedback from others destroy his goal of being one of the strongest poker players on the planet.

He started playing seriously after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for him were a learning period and winning was not a common outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he defeated many of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to dedication and an undying passion for poker. Phil states that he's picking up skills every day and is incredibly humble about his success. He knows he makes errors in each session of poker and constantly aspires to improve.

Even though Ivey has won some big tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a normal basis.
