Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker player on the globe by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to discover anything he could about the game. Phil routinely told his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. He did not permit the detrimental comments from other people kill his dream of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.

He began competing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a learning experience and coming away with a win was not a common thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he made two final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he defeated a number of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his success to dedication and an undying passion for poker. Phil says that he is picking up skills every day and is very abashed about his success. He knows he makes blunders in each session of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a regular basis.
