Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker player on the planet by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wished to pickup anything he could about the game. He would tell his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He did not let the adverse feedback from other people kill his goal of being one of the strongest poker players in the world.

He began competing intently after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first number of years for him were a teaching experience and winning wasn't a normal outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he defeated a number of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and an undying love for the game of poker. Phil says that he's learning every day and is quite humble about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes blunders every single session of poker and constantly strives to get better.

Even though Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a regular basis.
