Texas Hold em Poker Masters
Stu Ungar is thought to be by many to the very best NL Holdem Poker player ever.
The three time World Poker Champion was born in New York in '53 and started betting poker prior to becomming a teenager.
The young gambler started out wagering gin and at the age of ten had won his primary gin tournament, while on vacation with his mother and father. By the time he turned 14 the little poker maestro had become a pro and dropped out of school.
In '54 Stu entered the record books by succeeding 10 grand in a gin rummy tournament without sacrificing a single hand, a record which still appears in New York these days.
The fast talking superstar has been compared, in poker terms, to athletic superstars like Joe Namath and Kobe Bryant. Stu Ungar had a true skill for wagering poker but despite his successes in Hold'em poker, he favored betting gin.
Stu once said that there might a number of day be a better NL Texas hold em gambler than him except he couldn't see how anyone could ever be a improved gin player.
In 1980 Stu Ungar was put on the world map as one of the greatest Holdem Poker players in the planet when he was crowned World Poker Champ for the very first time. Astonishingly it was the very first time he had played in the tournament.
The right after year he dismissed any suggestions that it had been a fluke, by successfully defending his title. And in '97 Stu set the record by winning his 3rd World poker championship.
Except this poker master also struggled with substance abuse and a year right after succeeding his 3rd title Stu Ungar past away in his hotel room. According to physicians, he had died from a heart attack which was caused by his lifestyle.
Stu Ungar had started out with practically nothing but his skill and talent for the casino game which made this poker fantastic a millionaire a lot of times over.
