Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker competitor on the planet by many of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching the age of one. His grandpa showed him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to learn anything he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil did not let the adverse feedback from others destroy his dream of being one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.

Phil started competing intently after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a learning experience and winning wasn't a regular thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP where he made 2 final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he defeated many of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and a continuing passion for poker. He states that he's picking up skills every single day and is quite humble about his achievements. Phil knows he makes errors every single game of poker and constantly aspires to improve.

Although Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a regular basis.
