Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker competitor in the world by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather introduced him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wished to learn anything he possibly could about poker. He would tell his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn't permit the negative feedback from other people destroy his ambition of becoming one of the best poker competitors in the world.

Phil began playing intently after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first number of years for him were a teaching experience and winning was not a regular outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he destroyed quite a few of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and an immeasurable passion for poker. Phil states that he is learning every single day and is incredibly humble about his success. He knows he makes errors in each session of poker and always strives to get better.

Despite the fact that Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a regular basis.
