Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker player in the world by most of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught Phil penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to pickup every little thing he could about the game. He routinely told his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn't permit the adverse comments from other people destroy his goal of being one of the best poker players on the planet.

Phil started playing intently after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first number of years for him were a teaching experience and winning was not a normal thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved two final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he destroyed many of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his success to dedication and a continuing passion for poker. He states that he is picking up skills every single day and is quite humble about his achievements. Phil knows he makes mistakes every single session of poker and always aspires to get better.

Although Ivey has won some large tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a regular basis.
