Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker competitor in the world by most of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching the age of one. His papa introduced him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to discover anything he possibly could about poker. Phil would tell his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He did not allow the detrimental feedback from other people destroy his dream of being one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.

He began competing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win was not a regular thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and an immeasurable love for poker. He states that he's picking up skills every day and is quite abashed about his accomplishments. He admits to making mistakes in each session of poker and always strives to get better.

Although Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he likes winning money games on a regular basis.
