Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker player on the globe by most of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandpa taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to discover anything he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely would tell his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn't let the adverse feedback from other people destroy his goal of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.

He started playing seriously after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a teaching period and winning was not a regular outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he destroyed quite a few of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to hard work and a continuing love for the game of poker. Phil states that he is picking up skills every day and is quite abashed about his success. Phil knows he makes mistakes every single game of poker and always strives to improve.

Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a regular basis.
