Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker competitor in the world by most of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His papa taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wished to discover anything he possibly could about the game. He routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn't let the negative feedback from others kill his dream of being one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.

Phil began competing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a teaching period and winning wasn't a regular thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP where he made two final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he destroyed many of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to dedication and a continuing passion for the game of poker. Phil states that he is learning every single day and is incredibly abashed about his achievements. Phil knows he makes errors every single session of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Although Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a regular basis.
