Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker contender on the planet by quite a few of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching the age of 1. His papa taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to learn anything he could about poker. He routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the detrimental comments from others destroy his goal of becoming one of the best poker competitors on the planet.

He began playing seriously after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the casinos in Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a teaching experience and winning was not a common outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP where he made two final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he destroyed a number of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to dedication and an immeasurable love for poker. He says that he's picking up skills every single day and is incredibly humble about his success. Phil knows he makes errors in each game of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Even though Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a regular basis.
