Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker player in the world by quite a few of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught Phil penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wished to pickup everything he could about poker. Phil routinely told his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn't allow the detrimental feedback from others kill his ambition of being one of the strongest poker players on the planet.

He began competing intently after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a learning experience and winning wasn't a common outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved 2 final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he destroyed quite a few of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to dedication and a continuing passion for poker. He states that he's learning every single day and is incredibly humble about his achievements. Phil admits to making errors in each game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Even though Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a normal basis.
