Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker contender in the world by many of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His papa taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to learn anything he could about the game. He routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not let the detrimental comments from others kill his ambition of being one of the best poker competitors in the world.

Phil started competing intently after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first number of years for him were a teaching experience and winning wasn't a normal thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved 2 final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he destroyed a number of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his success to discipline and an immeasurable love for poker. He says that he is learning every day and is quite abashed about his accomplishments. He knows he makes errors in each game of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a regular basis.
