Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker contender on the globe by most of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to learn every little thing he could about the game. Phil routinely told his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. He did not permit the negative comments from others kill his goal of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.

Phil began competing seriously after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the casinos in Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a learning period and coming away with a win wasn't a common outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made two final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he defeated many of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his success to hard work and an immeasurable love for poker. He states that he is learning every day and is quite abashed about his accomplishments. He admits to making mistakes every single game of poker and always aspires to get better.

Although Phil has won some large tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a regular basis.
