Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker competitor in the world by most of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching turning 1. His grandfather showed him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup every little thing he could about poker. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn't permit the negative comments from other people destroy his ambition of becoming one of the greatest poker players in the world.

He started competing intently after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the casinos in Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win was not a normal outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP where he made 2 final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he defeated many of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and a continuing passion for poker. Phil states that he is learning every single day and is very humble about his accomplishments. He admits to making mistakes in each game of poker and always strives to improve.

Even though Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a regular basis.
