Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker competitor in the world by most of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to discover everything he could about the game. He would tell his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the adverse comments from other people annihilate his goal of being one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.

He began competing intently after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a teaching period and coming away with a win was not a normal outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he destroyed quite a few of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his success to hard work and a continuing love for poker. Phil states that he's picking up skills every single day and is quite humble about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes mistakes every single game of poker and always aspires to get better.

Although Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a normal basis.
