Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker contender on the globe by most of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught Phil penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to learn whatever he could about poker. Phil routinely would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not let the detrimental comments from other people annihilate his goal of being one of the strongest poker players in the world.

Phil began playing seriously after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a learning experience and winning wasn't a regular outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved two final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he destroyed a number of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his success to hard work and a continuing love for poker. He says that he's picking up skills every single day and is quite humble about his achievements. He admits to making blunders every single game of poker and always aspires to improve.

Even though Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he favors winning money games on a regular basis.
