Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker contender on the globe by many of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching the age of one. His papa taught Phil penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wished to pickup whatever he possibly could about the game. He would tell his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He didn't permit the detrimental comments from others destroy his goal of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.

Phil began playing intently after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win was not a regular thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he destroyed a number of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and a continuing passion for poker. Phil says that he's picking up skills every single day and is incredibly abashed about his achievements. He knows he makes errors every single session of poker and constantly strives to get better.

Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a regular basis.
