Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker player on the planet by most of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching turning one. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup everything he could about poker. He routinely would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn't allow the detrimental comments from other people annihilate his ambition of being one of the best poker players on the planet.

He began playing intently after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first number of years for him were a teaching period and coming away with a win was not a common outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved two final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he defeated many of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to dedication and a continuing love for poker. He says that he is learning every single day and is incredibly abashed about his success. He knows he makes mistakes in each session of poker and always aspires to get better.

Even though Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a regular basis.
