Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker player on the planet by most of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His grandpa taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup whatever he could about the game. Phil would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn't permit the detrimental comments from other people annihilate his dream of becoming one of the greatest poker players on the planet.

Phil started competing intently after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a learning experience and winning wasn't a normal outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an eternal passion for the game of poker. He says that he's learning every day and is incredibly humble about his accomplishments. Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a regular basis.
