Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker player in the world by many of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandfather showed him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to learn anything he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely would tell his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the adverse feedback from others kill his dream of being one of the greatest poker players on the planet.

Phil started competing intently after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the casinos in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a teaching period and winning was not a common outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he made two final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he defeated a number of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to dedication and a continuing passion for poker. He says that he's learning every single day and is very humble about his achievements. He admits to making blunders every single game of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Even though Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a normal basis.
