Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker contender in the world by many of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching turning 1. His grandfather taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to discover everything he could about poker. He routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn't let the detrimental comments from others destroy his dream of being one of the greatest poker players on the planet.

He began playing intently after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win was not a normal outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved two final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he destroyed many of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his success to dedication and an eternal passion for the game of poker. Phil states that he is learning every day and is very humble about his achievements. He knows he makes errors in each session of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he likes winning money games on a normal basis.
