Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker player on the planet by most of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wished to learn whatever he could about poker. Phil routinely would tell his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the detrimental feedback from others destroy his goal of being one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.

He began playing intently after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a teaching experience and winning wasn't a regular thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he made two final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he defeated many of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and a continuing love for the game of poker. Phil states that he is learning every single day and is quite humble about his achievements. He admits to making errors every single session of poker and always strives to get better.

Although Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a regular basis.
