Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker contender on the globe by many of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa introduced him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup every little thing he could about the game. He would tell his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil did not let the detrimental feedback from others destroy his goal of becoming one of the best poker players on the planet.

Phil started playing seriously after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a learning experience and coming away with a win was not a normal thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he made two final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he defeated a number of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his success to dedication and an undying love for poker. Phil states that he is picking up skills every single day and is very abashed about his success. He admits to making errors in each session of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Even though Ivey has won some big tournaments, he likes destroying money games on a normal basis.
