Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker contender on the planet by many of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching the age of one. His papa taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup whatever he could about the game. He routinely would tell his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He didn't permit the adverse comments from others annihilate his ambition of becoming one of the best poker players on the planet.

He started competing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a learning experience and winning was not a regular outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he destroyed many of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to hard work and an eternal love for the game of poker. He says that he's learning every day and is very abashed about his success. He knows he makes errors every single session of poker and always aspires to improve.

Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he likes winning money games on a normal basis.
