Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker competitor on the planet by most of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught Phil penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup anything he could about poker. He routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn't permit the detrimental comments from others kill his dream of becoming one of the best poker players on the planet.

Phil started competing seriously after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a teaching experience and winning was not a common thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made 2 final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he defeated many of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an eternal passion for the game of poker. He says that he is learning every single day and is quite abashed about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes blunders every single game of poker and constantly aspires to improve.

Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a normal basis.
