Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker player on the planet by quite a few of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching the age of one. His grandfather introduced him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to pickup whatever he possibly could about poker. He would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not let the negative comments from other people annihilate his ambition of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.

He began competing seriously after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a teaching period and coming away with a win wasn't a normal outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved two final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he destroyed many of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his success to hard work and an eternal passion for poker. He states that he's learning every single day and is incredibly abashed about his achievements. He knows he makes blunders every single game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he favors winning money games on a regular basis.
