Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker contender on the planet by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to learn anything he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the detrimental feedback from other people kill his goal of being one of the best poker competitors on the planet.

Phil began competing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a teaching experience and coming away with a win wasn't a common thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he made 2 final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he destroyed quite a few of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his success to hard work and a continuing love for poker. He says that he's learning every day and is very abashed about his accomplishments. He knows he makes mistakes in each session of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Despite the fact that Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a normal basis.
