Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker competitor on the globe by many of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to discover everything he possibly could about the game. He would tell his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn't let the detrimental comments from other people kill his dream of being one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.

He began competing intently after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a teaching opportunity and winning wasn't a common thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved two final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he destroyed many of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his success to hard work and an undying love for the game of poker. He states that he's picking up skills every single day and is very humble about his success. Phil admits to making errors every single session of poker and constantly aspires to improve.

Despite the fact that Phil has won some big tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a normal basis.
