Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker player on the planet by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching turning one. His grandfather taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wished to pickup everything he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn't let the adverse feedback from other people annihilate his ambition of becoming one of the best poker competitors on the planet.

Phil began playing intently after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a learning opportunity and winning wasn't a common outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made two final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he defeated a number of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his success to dedication and a continuing passion for poker. Phil says that he is picking up skills every single day and is incredibly abashed about his achievements. He knows he makes blunders in each game of poker and constantly strives to get better.

Despite the fact that Ivey has won some large tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a regular basis.
