Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker competitor on the planet by quite a few of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His papa introduced him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to learn every little thing he possibly could about poker. He would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn't allow the detrimental comments from other people kill his ambition of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.

Phil started competing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a learning period and coming away with a win was not a regular outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he destroyed a number of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and an immeasurable passion for poker. Phil says that he is picking up skills every single day and is quite humble about his achievements. Phil knows he makes blunders every single session of poker and always aspires to improve.

Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a regular basis.
