Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker player in the world by most of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching the age of one. His grandfather taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to discover anything he could about the game. Phil routinely told his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He didn't let the detrimental comments from others annihilate his ambition of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.

Phil began competing intently after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a teaching period and coming away with a win was not a regular thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made two final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he destroyed a number of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his success to discipline and a continuing passion for the game of poker. Phil says that he's learning every single day and is very humble about his accomplishments. He knows he makes errors in each session of poker and always strives to improve.

Even though Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a regular basis.
