Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker contender on the globe by quite a few of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup everything he could about the game. Phil routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn't allow the negative comments from other people kill his goal of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.

Phil began playing intently after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win wasn't a common thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he destroyed a number of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to hard work and an eternal passion for poker. Phil says that he's picking up skills every single day and is very humble about his success. He knows he makes errors in each session of poker and always strives to get better.

Although Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he favors winning money games on a normal basis.
