Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker competitor on the planet by many of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His grandpa taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to learn everything he possibly could about the game. Phil would tell his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. He did not let the adverse feedback from other people destroy his ambition of being one of the greatest poker players in the world.

He started playing seriously after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a teaching experience and winning wasn't a common thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he destroyed many of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to hard work and an undying love for the game of poker. He says that he is picking up skills every single day and is very humble about his accomplishments. Phil admits to making errors in each game of poker and always strives to improve.

Despite the fact that Phil has won some large tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a regular basis.
